An exciting opportunity for a new Service Manager has arisen in the Social Services Directorate of Blaenau Gwent Council. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the South East Wales Adoption Service and reporting to the Head of Service for Children’s Services.The successful candidate will be accountable for contributing to the success of the Adoption Service through organisational development, change management and workforce planning, they will ensure appropriate improvements are made to the services in order to continuously improve standards of the service provision. When required, they will represent the region to continue the development of the National Adoption Service.The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all data relating to individual clients is recorded and that performance and activity information is reported to the Regional and National Adoption Boards, they will also ensure that all statutory duties in respect of children are discharged in accordance with the requirements of legislation, guidance and the Council’s policy.Principal accountabilities will also include developing mechanisms to maintain strong links with the Child Care Teams in each Local Authority, maintaining the profile of adoption and ensuring adoption panels provide robust scrutiny of assessments. They will take responsibility in ensuring that the Children’s Services workforce is adequately qualified and trained to carry out the requirements of the service.Essential educational attainments for this position are a recognised Social Work qualification and registration with a Care Council. Significant experience in working at a management level in Children’s Social Services is essential, along with experience of establishing and maintaining a performance culture, achieving performance standards and experience of working across corporate and interagency boundaries.Further to this, it is essential that the successful candidate has knowledge of the key Social Care and health policy issues and the modernization / improvement agenda for Social Services.This post is designated a politically restricted post in line with the ‘specified post’ criteria.The position carries an Approved Casual Car User Allowance therefore access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process.
