An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Education Department as they are looking to appoint an Education Welfare Officer who will liaise with the Senior Education Welfare Officer.
 
The Educational Welfare Officer will be responsible for working in partnerships with schools, pupils and their families to reduce absenteeism and to resolve welfare issues that could hinder pupils achieving their full potential. In addition to this, the successful candidate will be providing professional guidance on legislation and other regulations concerning the service and also provide work with schools and partner agencies to implement strategies to prevent problems.
 
Key principal accountabilities for this role include working in partnership with the Authority’s schools to raise attendance levels, supporting the Senior Education Welfare Officer in line with corporate strategies and action plans, collecting effective data and to provide statistical analysis relating to school attendance and also to prepare EWO reports on individual cases as required by the courts.
 
Interested candidates will be required to be educated to a Graduate level or equivalent in a relevant field such as Youth, Social Work etc. Other experience includes working with children or young people and their families, experience of working in a statutory setting and experience of having undertaken a planning, monitoring and evaluation role.
 
The skills and knowledge for this role include having the ability to understand the individual needs of children and young people, their families and schools, as well as how best to meet those needs within the policies of the L.E.A.
 
The successful candidate should also:
 
  1. Have good organisational skills
  2. Have the ability to cope with confrontational situations
  3. Be able to meet deadlines
  4. Be computer literate
  5. Be flexible in terms of working hours which includes some evening work
 
This post is a secondment opportunity. Before applying for this secondment opportunity, candidates should seek approval to be released from their current post by their Line Manager.
 
Secondments are available to permanent staff of the Authority only.
 
The position carries an Approved Casual Car User Allowance therefore access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.
