Job Summary

The Education Department is looking to appoint a Youth Accreditation Officer on a Fixed Term 12 month contract to support and develop young people aged 11 – 25 years in order to access opportunities for accredited achievements in the context of a youth work setting and informal educational environment.  This work is based on the Principles and Purposes of Youth Work in Wales.

The Youth Accreditation Officer will report to the Detached Youth Team Coordinator and will be responsible for developing Youth Service priorities to ensure the active involvement of young people’s participation.                                                                             

Principal accountabilities for this role include:


  1. To support the weekly Youth Clubs and ensure that they meet the needs of young people
  2. To develop a range of accreditation opportunities for young people’s learning
  3. To introduce and deliver accredited programmes in identified centres and respond to local needs
  4. To challenge discrimination and promote equal opportunities and young people’s rights
  5. To promote the voice and engagement of young people and support them through the process

The successful candidate will be required to have a Level 3 qualification in Youth and Community work, be registered with the EWC, and be aware of Child Protection legislation. Flexibility is required as there will be a need to cover various bases throughout the borough and unsociable hours.  A full driving licence and access to a car for work purposes is essential.

Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process. The postholder will be required to complete an application for a Disclosure of Criminal Records.
