The Assistant Team Leader will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Strategic Projects Programme through managing waste and recycling procurements, projects and ongoing contract management in order to support Blaenau Gwent in meeting future targets.

An opportunity has presented itself within the Environment directorate for an experienced Assistant Team Leader. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and procurement of medium term waste and recycling contracts and manage the performance of contractors carrying out work on behalf of the authority. Ensure that high quality services are obtained and that all such contracts are operated in accordance with statutory provisions achieving high performance, standards and value for money.

You will play a key role within the Strategic Projects Team in the research and development of projects and initiatives that support the Council’s ability to achieve future Statutory Recovery Targets.

Essential criteria for this role includes experience of working within the waste and recycling industry with Contract Management/Monitoring and Waste Data Flow along with experience in work. You must hold a full current driving licence, with access to a vehicle to travel to other sites around the authority. The successful candidate will have the ability to promote and manage workloads effectively and work to deadlines with a sound understanding of the existing and future legislation affecting waste matters.

This post is an internal advertisement, open to Permanent and Fixed Term employees of Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.  Temporary employees are eligible to apply providing they have 24 months continuous employment with the Authority.

This post can also be offered as a secondment opportunity. Before applying for this as a secondment opportunity, candidates should seek approval to be released from their current post by their Line Manager. Secondments are available to permanent staff of the Authority only.

The position carries an Approved Casual Car User Allowance therefore access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.
