With a commitment to delivering a high quality service you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with a wide range of environmental legislation by individuals and businesses throughout the County Borough. You will act as the lead officer for the proactive surveillance operations and investigations conducted by the Frontline Enforcement Team, utilising the Authority’s CCTV technology to gather evidence and identify offenders, enabling legal proceedings to be instigated against them. Your reactive work will involve responding to complaints about waste regulation offences, abandoned vehicles, nuisance parking and stray dogs, while you will also be expected to take proactive approach to ensuring compliance with the relevant environmental legislation with clients, through inspections and site investigations. You will collect and record evidence, write concise and accurate reports for formal action following incidents, issue fixed penalty notices and when required, assist in preparing the Authority’s cases for prosecution, attending Court when necessary.

You will be expected to ensure that offending behaviour is fully investigated which will require occasional weekend and evening work. You will also attend public meetings as required and provide Members with regular progress reports.

Significant experience of working in an enforcement capacity within a regulatory service is essential. You will also have gained extensive experience in working with the public and delivering a public service.

Essential knowledge/skills include, but are not limited to;

  • Proven experience in using Microsoft Office particularly Word and Excel,
  • Extensive experience in criminal investigations utilising surveillance technology and techniques to gather evidence for formal proceedings,
  • Detailed knowledge of waste regulation, dog control and nuisance parking and abandoned vehicle legislation and an understanding of legal processes associated with enforcement functions,
  • The ability to be confident and diplomatic when dealing with the public and others.
