A temporary opportunity has arisen for someone with experience of managing/co-ordinating early years settings with a proven record of enhancing quality, as a Quality Improvement Officer, leading on and supporting quality improvement in childcare settings across Blaenau Gwent with a focus on childminder settings.

You will take the lead in promoting and undertaking assessment of quality in Blaenau Gwent’s childcare and play settings, with a focus on childminder settings.  You will be responsible for creating and monitoring action plans that will promote continuous improvement, offering creative suggestions and solutions where required.  There is a particular focus on promoting excellent safeguarding practice within the sector.

Working closely with members of the Early Years Childcare and Play team and the Flying Start Advisory Teacher you will identify and promote good practice models, the training needs of the workforce and common findings/gaps to be addressed.

Supporting the collection of baseline and exit assessment data is a key part of the role, as is supporting and facilitating transition arrangements for children moving into school nursery settings.

You should be qualified to Level 5 in early years or childcare.

Experience and knowledge required includes:

  • Proven experience of working in and co-ordinating/managing an early years setting
  • Proven experience of creating/working with improvement plans to enhance provision
  • Knowledge of legislation/regulation relating to childcare provision
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to children with Additional Learning Needs
  • Knowledge of partnership working at operational and strategic levels
