Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council is looking to appoint an Assistant Educational Psychologist on a fixed term basis from September 1st, 2020 to July 31st, 2021.

The Educational Psychology Service works in schools and other educational settings to support children and young people. We aim to help schools and parents/carers find a way of moving a situation forward when a problem has been identified. Our work is summarised by our three key messages as:

  • capacity building using evidence-based systemic approaches;
  • consultation with school staff and others to ’unstick’ barriers to learning; and,
  • working at an individual level, informed by psychological and therapeutic theories and practice.

The Service contributes to a wide range of local, regional and national initiatives, often on a multi-agency basis.

The post will have a focus on developing and facilitating effective interventions to promote psychological wellbeing and social, emotional and behavioural development of children and young people.

Applicants should possess an Honours degree in Psychology, recognised by the British Psychological Society.

For further information or an informal discussion about the post please contact: Dr Robert Smith (Senior & Acting Principal EP) on 01495 357891 (robert.smith@blaenau-gwent.gov.uk) or Gavin Metheringham (Inclusion Services Manager) on 01495 355010 (gavin.metheringham@blaenau-gwent.gov.uk).

The position carries an Approved Casual Car User Allowance therefore access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.

Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process. The postholder will be required to complete an application for a Disclosure of Criminal Records.
