An exciting and rewarding opportunity has opened for a highly motivated and experienced individual to provide the artistic vision and leadership for Head4Arts in its delivery of community arts activities across the Heads of the Valleys east. As Creative Director you will manage the Head4Arts team and freelance professional arts practitioners in developing and implementing a three-year business plan that demonstrates artistic excellence, inspires participation, and generates creative responses to national wellbeing priorities.
Having responsibility for the financial health of Head4Arts, you will need to oversee the budgets, provide progress reports to the Head4Arts Steering Group and communicate regularly with the group’s Chair and the designated operational lead officer from Blaenau Gwent CBC. It will also involve liaising with Arts Council of Wales and other funding bodies to ensure that all requirements relating to grant funding are properly delivered and that good reputation is maintained.
As well as being a successful fundraiser, you will have an appreciation of the value of collaborative practice and skill in brokering and nurturing partnerships. As spokesperson for Head4Arts you will be able to communicate how community arts practice can support community wellbeing and contribute towards addressing local and national challenges.
You will develop strong links with other arts organisations and practitioners in contributing to sector-wide initiatives and consultations, sharing good practice and raising Head4Arts’ profile regionally, nationally and internationally..
Required skills include;
- knowledge of the arts sector in Wales
- understanding of relevant legislation
- knowledge of funding bodies (including Arts Council of Wales and Arts Lottery)
- knowledge and understanding of the Heads of the Valleys Region
- project management / co-ordination
- budget management
- staff management (both employees and freelance workers)
- creative skills – able to design and initiate projects and sometimes deliver them directly
- excellent interpersonal / communication skills
- preparing, writing and presenting reports
- writing funding bids
- good time management and the ability to work on many projects simultaneously
- a creative and analytical approach.
Access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.
